Beethoven Anniversary Year started!
All throughout 2020, concerts, festivals, and a range of other cultural events will be held in and around Bonn, Germany, in honour of Ludwig van Beethoven's 250th anniversary of birth. This Anniversary Year commences on 16 December 2019, the (probable) 249th birthday of arguably the most famous son of the city of Bonn. The Anniversary Year will come to a close on 17 December 2020, the 250th anniversary of Beethoven's Baptism.
The European Choral Association - Europa Cantat will also be part of these festivities, as they have strong ties to the city of Bonn where the ECA-EC offices are located. As one of the patrons of the World Youth Choir (WYC), ECA-EC is happy to welcome the 2020 WYC to Bonn in July and August where the choir will rehearse for its 2020 session. Together with the German National Youth Orchestra, a unique tour will take them to various venues throughout Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, and Austria.
In late September 2020, ECA-EC will host the international choral festival, In the Footsteps of Beethoven, which will allow participants to sing in one of two ateliers, lead by Panda van Proosdij and Jan Schumacher, and to explore Beethoven's birthplace in his footsteps.
The closure of the Anniversary Year will be marked by a gala concert on 17 December 2020, for which ECA-EC is casting a pan-European Youth Choir. The choir will be prepared by Simon Halsey to perform the gala concert together with Daniel Barenboim and the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra.
Deadline for applications: 31 January 2020.
