About Us

The International Federation for Choral Music (IFCM) was born IN 1982 In order to advance the art of choral music throughout the world.

Therefore the following organizations:

  • A Coeur Joie International
  • American Choral Directors Association
  • Arbeitsgemeinschaft Europaïsche Chorverbände
  • Asociación Interamericana de Directores de Coros
  • Europa Cantat, Fédération Européenne des Jeunes Chorales
  • Japan Choral Association
  • Nordiska Körkommittén-Samnam-Nordisk Korforum (NKF)

joined together, as founding organizations, to invite all other members of the International Choral Community to take part in the creation of an international organization in Namur, Belgium, on 8-10 August 1982.

As of now the following Founding Organizations are still existing onboard IFCM:

IFCM is legally incorporated in Lawton, Oklahoma, USA.

The business of IFCM is run from offices established by the Executive Committee (ExCom) of the organization and approved by the Board of Directors, as follows:

A Governance Adviser, appointed by the Board and ExCom together ensures that all legal matters of IFCM are done according to law and to the internal rules and regulations of the organization.

The working language of IFCM is English.

IFCM International Choral Magazine

Official magazine of the International Federation for Choral Music, the International Choral Magazine is published quarterly in the four official languages of IFCM: English, French, German and Spanish. It is distributed in more than 80 countries on the five continents and is the official voice of choral music around the world.
