Despite all types of choral events being cancelled due to the current pandemic crisis and even though we don’t know how long the crisis will last, we believe that it is important to remain positive and hopeful. That is why we are cautiously, and optimistically, announcing the planned date for World Choral Day 2020. The International Federation for Choral Music (IFCM) is an organization that largely operates thanks to the volunteer time of all its board members and collaborators. IFCM also has two permanent full-time positions and two freelance part-time positions. The health of the organization relies, in great part, on the periodic review of all these positions. Board members serve three-year terms with limited re-elections, and staff positions are reviewed based on the mission, vision, and needs of the organization. This process is an institutional one, is overseen by the board of directors, and is driven by the board’s commitment to its role as stewards of the organization.

Conductors without Borders (CWB) is one of the most significant projects of IFCM. There have been successful sessions in Africa and Latin & Central America. Following a review of the CWB project in early 2020, the IFCM board approved a new, improved structure which will expand CWB even more. The new structure provides a mechanism through which anyone can apply to organize a CWB project in their country and can even become one of the conductors.
