The next edition of the World Symposium on Choral Music will be hosted in Istanbul 25-30 April 2023. After the unfortunate cancellation of the 2020 edition, for the last 6 years the choral community has not had the opportunity to meet under the umbrella of the symposium. It is extremely exciting for us, Türkiye’s Choral Culture Association, to be able to host this fantastic gathering in the historical and multicultural city of Istanbul, which connects the two continents Europe and Asia.
Since Türkiye has stepped in as a potential host of the WSCM 2023, a lot of time and energy has been invested into this project by IFCM and our national choral organisation Choral Culture Association. The Administrative and Artistic Committees are working on the details of the project, while our national board and local music commission are making sure everything is running smoothly with the preparations. The patron of the event will be the Turkish Ministry of Culture & Tourism and the central hub of the symposium will be Istanbul Atatürk Cultural Center, a symbolic venue of the city that has been renewed in the last years and opened again with a brand-new Opera Hall of 2040 seats and a Theatre Hall with 800 seats. The cultural complex also owns exhibition halls, multipurpose rooms, libraries, and much more. We are lucky to invite the choral community to the heart of Istanbul: Taksim Square. The location, which is famous with its Istiklal Street, is full of historical churches, museums, culture centers, local shops, and restaurants.
Come to Istanbul to discover new styles of singing and experience excellent quality of choral music under the theme of Changing Horizons. We are all looking forward to meeting all IFCM members in one of the most beautiful cities of the world.
