IFCM is deeply saddened about the passing of our long-time friend Ricardo Denegri in La Plata, Argentina, on 4 March 2023, at the age of 78. Thirty years ago, Ricardo founded the Sociedad de los Encuentros Corales and, together with his friend and colleague Oscar Escalada, created the Argentine Association for Choral Music (AAMCANT) and the Festival America Cantat.
With his constant determination to expand choral activities in his country, Ricardo helped to establish the Federal Argentine Association for Choral Conductors (OFADAC) which has organized regular sessions of Conductors Without Borders since 2018.
Oscar said about Ricardo: “he was not looking for his own personal or professional prestige since he was an industrial designer. His objective was always to increase choral activities and encourage quality choral performances. Through course offerings, festivals, masterclasses and other strategies, he strove to expand choral knowledge and skills in tandem with a valuing of the choral art. Ricardo’s generosity was extreme and his vitality endless.”
Ricardo was active in IFCM as an advisor from 1993 to 2011. RIP Ricardo.
