The European Choral Association is a member of the European and International Music Councils (EMC and IMC, respectively) and subscribes to the Five Music Rights developed by IMC. The fifth right is the right for all musical artists “to obtain just recognition and fair remuneration for their work”. In the past, this right has often not been fully respected in the choral sector.
The European Choral Association therefore decided to research what might be “fair pay” for choral conductors and vocal leaders working at international events, as conductors of auditioned international ensembles, and as workshop/masterclass leaders or lecturers, as well as “fair pay” for composers who are commissioned to compose a choral work.
These recommendations are the result of this work and were partly applied, for the first time, at Leading Voices in Utrecht, The Netherlands.
This activity is organised in the framework of the IGNITE project co funded by the EU.
Official magazine of the International Federation for Choral Music, the International Choral Magazine is published quarterly in the four official languages of IFCM: English, French, German and Spanish. It is distributed in more than 80 countries on the five continents and is the official voice of choral music around the world.
