Voices Meeting for a Better World

 

The 2019 World Choral EXPO (WCE) will feature numerous concerts throughout Lisbon and its surrounding cities, presented by participating choirs and 11 selected leading choral ensembles from different continents. We are delighted to announce the 11 invited choirs selected to enrich the 2019 World Choral EXPO: Moran Choir (Israel), Indonesia Children and Youth Choir - Cordona (Indonesia), Shenzhen Lily Children’s Choir (China), Ensemble Vocapella Limburg (Germany), Jazz Cantat (Portugal), Shemesh Quartet (Mexico), Credo Chamber Choir (Ukraine), Musica Nostra Female Choir (Hungary), Cantemus Children’s Choir (Hungary), Coro Juvenil do Instituto Gregoriano de Lisboa (Portugal), Kokopelli Youth Choir (Canada), the Qatar Youth Choir (Qatar) and the Youth Chamber Choir of TURKSOY (Turksoy member countries). As well, there will be amazing performances by the 2019 World Youth Choir which will join the 2019 WCE and IFCM guests to celebrate the World Youth Choir’s 30thanniversary in Lisbon.

 

Bios for the Indonesian Children and Youth Choir – Codrona, Kokopelli Youth Choir, Shenzhen Lily Children’ Choir, Shemesh Quartet, Coro Juvenil do Instituto Gregoriano de Lisboa, Cantemus Children’s Choir, Moran Choir, Credo Chamber Choir, and Ensemble Vocapella Limburg appeared in the April IFCMeNEWSMay IFCMeNEWS and June IFCMeNEWS The next two choirs to present are:

 

Qatar Youth Choir (Qatar), conducted by Alena Pyne

Founded 5 years ago by conductor Alena Pyne, Qatar Youth Choir is an auditioned choir for mixed voices, ages 14 and up. Always ready for a new challenge, the choir performs music from all epochs and in many languages. The singers’ favourite genre is folk songs, and they are especially happy to sing Arabic repertoire. Recently, the choir was awarded 1stprize in Qatar’s first National Music Competition. In 2018, the choir performed at the opening of one of Qatar’s many iconic buildings. the National Library, and performed for H.H. Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani. In recent years they have performed often with Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra. Qatar Youth Choir has toured to Germany, Latvia, Croatia, and Austria; coming to Lisbon for the World Choral EXPO is a dream come true. The choir is very grateful to Qatar Airways and the National Tourism Council for enabling its participation in the World Choral Expo 2019. “A sorte favorece os bravos.”

 

Youth Chamber Choir of TURKSOY, (Turksoy member countries) conducted by Gulmira Kuttybadamova

The Youth Chamber Choir of TURKSOY is composed of young choir singers selected from the best conservatories of TURKSOY member countries. It was established by the International Organization of Turkic Culture in 2015 in order to foster the exchange of repertoires, conductors, and artists among orchestras of the Turkic World while, at the same time, introducing the rich music heritage of Turkic-speaking peoples to the world. Shortly after its establishment, the choir won three gold medals at the Second European Choir Games held in Germany. They also performed at the Astana-Voice of the World. The choir represents the Turkic World with 38 artists from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan and Tatarstan (RF) and is conducted by Gulmira Kuttybadamova from Kazakhstan.
