On 9 November 2024, the IFCM online café focused on the art of choral composition. Three well-known Latin American composers shared their ideas on how to create choral music for ensembles today, using their own compositions as illustrations: César Alejandro Carrillo (Venezuela), Julio César Morales Pineda (Mexico), and Mónica Pacheco (Argentina).

¡Cantemos! con La Schola, 20-24 November 2024. Following their first program ¡Cantemos! on the Margarita Island, the Schola Cantorum de Venezuela, conducted by Maria Guinand and Luimar Arismendi, brought their program to yet another part of Venezuela. This time to Mérida and San Cristóbal. ¡Cantemos! Is designed to encourage the participation and development of more choral groups through meetings, workshops, seminars and concerts.

From 14-17 November, over 130 members of the European Choral Association (ECA) gathered in Leuven, Belgium, for the ECA Membership Weekend organized by Koor&Stem. Participants considered some of the big issues facing the choral sector, looked at what has been done so far, and shared ideas on the future of collective singing.

The 10th International Prizes “Catalunya” for Choral Composition of the Federació Catalana d’Entitats Corals (FCEC) is open until 31 January 2025. Composers can enter compositions based on Catalan texts and harmonizations of traditional Catalan songs in two categories: mixed voices and equal voices.

At its summer board meeting, IFCM Board of Directors approved a new name for its international conducting project: Conductors Beyond Borders (CBB). In view of the program’s many initiatives that facilitate connections between conductors from different geographical regions and/or between conductors and singers from neighboring countries, the new title is more appropriate and descriptive.
